Heaven for Snorkeling: Longdong Bay Ocean Park
As a popular recreational spot combining a café, swimming pools, snorkeling training pools, and a geological exhibition center, Longdong Bay Ocean Park is reconstructed from abalone aquaculture ponds and has been converted into the perfect place for diving, snorkeling training and canoeing. During low tide, the 100-meter tidal flat provides a wonderful chance to investigate all kinds of living coastal creatures.
There is a detached building in the Longdong Bay Ocean Park. It is a geology classroom introducing the geographical sights in the Northeast Coast with pictures and text descriptions, such as the sea cliff, seat cave, wave-cut platform and sea terrace. It is suitable for both parents and children to learn about the great sculptural works of nature on the site.
There are only a few stores near the park. The Seaview Cafe inside the park is a good place for children waiting for swimming and parents learning skin diving to enjoy afternoon tea or taste the "seaweed meal" from the house. Also, through the large clear glass of the cafe, visitors can see the refreshing sea view from inside.
The "agar jelly" is a popular snack of the Ocean Park. It is made with the agar collected under the sea by diving coaches. The agar is a specialty of the Northeast Coast harvested during February to April every year in the lunar calendar. It is cool to have agar jelly in summer. As agar contains rich water-soluble fibers, gelatin and polysaccharides, it helps to lower blood pressure, blood fat, cholesterol, and blood glucose. So, it is worth trying.
